Sociology: Social Science or just plain BS?
Sociology is the study of generic trends in the world's problems. By looking at particular aspects of human beings an entire branch of study was erected. Allowing sophisticated people to derive data from seemingly endless variables that compose an individual, and have come to the final conclusion that: stuff happens based on who you are.
Really? No fucking way.
This dicipline of study has the stones to tell me that race, age, wealth, and location factor into the chances of being mugged. Duh?
I'm sure that you can find data on the fact that 87% of people who wear pink frilly underwear will one day have a cold. The point is that they take mass generalizations and apply them to even more vague problems.
Did you know race is a way for people to descriminate against one another? Well I sure do. We spent an entire week on that no-brainer.
Alright, maybe I'm being too critical on the entire subject. It could be the fact that my professor has no clue. That might be it. For a doctor she can not prepare a 75 minute class very well, as all the material she covers is directly from the book, and lasts 13 minutes. The rest of the time people in my class state their opinions on the matter.
No biggie, I can doodle for a good while.
Then the Fem Nazi steps in. Apparently we men have kept her voice silenced for the better part of her life, and only now... after reading the dribble in the book, is she able to speak her mind of spoon fed fabricated ideas.
"Women who are poor are that way because it is where men like them."
Holy fuck! Apparently the entire population of poor males has been wiped out in a mass conspiracy to keep women down and degraded. Hot damn, our plan worked guys.
I'm all for women. Never has the thought crossed my mind that they were unequal to men. But come on. Using men as a scapegoat is not the answer. I sure as hell don't have it, find it yourself.
I can see how a lot of problems are mens fault. We do seemingly rule the world, and because of that the decisions are made by us, but damn. Just because it's a cloudy day doesn't mean it is our fault.
...
Anyways.
If I could get to sleep, this wouldn't be here. OR IF MY TEACHER WOULD GRADE MY PAPER WHICH I HAVE TURNED IN TWICE NOW, I WOULD'T BE SO BITTER ABOUT THIS USELESS SUBJECT.
No, it doesn't bother me that she can stumble upon this and read it. I have the right to my opinion and the right to vocalize it however I choose. As long as my rights do not impeed upon others rights, and no one is forcing you to be here.
So if you want to listen to other peoples interpretations of skewed data, and their weak correlations, you should change your major to sociology. You won't be disappointed.
Because every social problem starts with a man.
